All of the stations in t h t part of the drainage mea lying in Color:ido, Wyoming, Montana, arid North Dakota had temperatures below zero. The lowest temperatures for the iiiontli in t,lie lower part, of t,lie drainage area ranged from 16" above to 15" below zero. The second was more generd, but was felt, to a greater extent in Iowa than in any other State west of the Mississippi River. There was snow bliroughout the district, itnd on the 19th it was particxi- la.rly heavy in t,liat part of the drainage area lying below Omaha. At, the end of the inont,li, however, 110 snow remained on t.he ground, except in the extreme western and northwestern sections. Tlie heaviest iiionthly pre- cipita,tion was 7.45 inches at Unionville, Mo., and the heaviest in 24 consecutive hours was 3.30 inches at Fort Scott, Kms. The heaviest monthly snowfall was 43 inches at Elk Mountain, Wyo. MOUNTAIN SNOWFALL. Ilioietnn,a,.-Tlie February snowfall was above the norinal over tlie greater portion of tlie Main Range and t,lie Cfallnt,in, Jutlitli, Bridger, Little Belt, and Crazy Mountmains. It was c.omparat,ively light, as a rule, in the Beartooth. Tob:Lcco Root, Snowy, Madison, and Ruby ranges. The temperature conditions were exceptionally favorable for solidifying and conserving the snow in the higher mountains. The warm days clurinc the first part of the month reduced the snow in most places to almost the c,orisisteiicy of ice, but the thawing was not suficient t,o cmuse loss by run-of?. At the close of February prac- tically the ent,ire snowfall of the preceding four months remained on tlie ground, and it is the consensus of opinion t,liitt unless the spring iiionblis should he abnormally wirin there will be an nbunclnnt supply of water for irrig:itt,ion antl other purposes.-I?. Auroras were observed in tlie upper portion of the clraina,ve area on the 2c1, 31st-24th, L‘Gtli, and 27th. On the niqlit of the 14th at about Y 11. in. a brilliant meteor was observed iit several stations in southetistern South Dakota.
